Ashurst begins rebuild of structured finance team after exit of nine US lawyers

The international firm has recruited a former UBS Securities managing director in order to carve out a new group in the US, after nine lawyers left from New York and Washington DC for Paul Hastings in July.

Eric Bothwell, who qualified at the New York bar, is joining the collateralised loan obligation practice in New York. Having worked at Goldman Sachs and UBS for 16 years, he brings a new, highly industry-focused strength to the team. The practice he joins was set back by the loss of its former US managing partner and finance partner Eugene Ferrer when he left with Washington DC-based Scott Faga, global co-head of securities and derivatives, to join Paul Hastings along with seven others.

Bringing back work

Michael Logie, global head of securities and derivatives at Ashurst, told Legal Business: 'We never like to lose good partners but we are determined to re-build and, with the experience and high calibre of partners in London, we have been able to bring back work fairly quickly.'
