Asian businesses hit hardest for US anti-trust breaches

About 77 per cent of the fines levied in the US for anti-trust breaches since 2015 have been imposed on Asian companies, according to research from the Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Japanese entities were hardest hit, followed by the South Korean and Taiwanese. While Japanese companies have paid US$3.3b of these penalties, German organisations have paid just a quarter of that, US793m. The Chamber of Commerce believes that cultural differences may be making themselves felt. Kang Seok-gu of the Chamber said: ‘Consultative level of cooperation among companies, which happens frequently in Asian countries, is often not acceptable in western countries and considered as collusion.’ Source: Financial Times
