Bakers sees mergers as a route into Africa

Gary Senior, chair of EMEA at Baker & McKenzie, has talked about the growing interest from international law firms in Africa and has said that mergers will be a path into the continent.

Gary Senior, who also sits on the firm's global executive board, told Bloomberg Business of Law that: 'Compared to ten years ago, there’s a huge amount of interest.'

Economic development

When asked if he thought mergers are the way forward for Baker & McKenzie, he replied: 'Yes I do. But what the time frame will be I’m not sure, to be honest. That just depends on, bluntly, the economic development in each of the countries.' The firm opened in Johannesburg in 2012. Source: Bloomberg Business of Law
