Barclays begins global panel review

With its roster set to expire this summer, Barclays has launched a global review of its legal panel.

A source told The Lawyer that the panel comes to an end in June, though with the review still in its early stages the details of how it will be run are yet to be made public.

30 per cent cut

Barclays cut its global panel by 30 per cent in July 2014, after announcing a new-look structure made up of general and preferred advisers. The magic circle firms were all re-appointed, alongside DLA Piper. Meanwhile, the 19 preferred places were split between UK and US-headquartered firms, including Addleshaw Goddard, Clearly Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, Davis Polk & Wardwell, Hogan Lovells, Simmons & Simmons.

Barclays’ legal panel typically lasts for two years and was run back in 2014 by group general counsel Bob Hoyt. Source: The Lawyer
