Mr Emmerson officially resigned from the post at around 10pm last night, less than 24 hours after it was reported that IICSA chairwoman Alexis Jay had suspended him from the position. However, in a statement today, the IICSA chairwoman refuted the suggestion that the pair were at loggerheads over the direction of the £100m inquiry: ‘There is no truth in suggestions that he has resigned due to a difference of opinion with me about the next steps for the inquiry,’ she said. Mr Emmerson’s deputy counsel Elizabeth Prochaska has also stepped down from her role in the IICSA, but claims her decision to resign is not related to the recent controversy surrounding her colleague.
