Boom recorded in bogus firm reports from the UK

The leading UK legal regulator has recorded a 25 per cent rise in the number of occasions when individuals pretended to be running a law firm - taking the total to over 700 in 2014.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority said that the increase was going in tandem with a similar increase in fraudulent acitivity in the UK. The data was published in an update to the Risk Outlook 2014/15 report. The authors of the report also warn lawyers about continued threats on cyber security. The report says: 'Cybercrime continues to represent a significant threat to the information and money held by law firms. Firms should take sensible security precautions.' Source: SRA
