Burges Salmon welcomes first batch of legal apprentices

Five Trailblazer Apprentices started yesterday at Burges Salmon.

The firm is one of the first to adopt a legal apprenticeship scheme under the UK government’s Trailblazers Apprenticeship in Law initiative, with Eversheds the only other major firm to currently advertise positions under the scheme. The two-year programme operates in conjunction with BPP law school and allows apprentices to spend one day per week in the classroom and four days per week working at Burges Salmon. Participating apprentices will achieve a Level 3 Paralegal Apprenticeship Standard and Certificate in Legal Practice by the end of the programme, giving them a qualification equivalent to completion of the first year of law school. The Trailblazer scheme has failed to win favour with many law firms but Burges Salmon is enthusiastic about its newest recruits, saying it fully supports the principals behind the initiative and recognises the value apprentices bring to businesses.
