Bird & Bird is to open a work space in Berlin on 1 July to complement the firm's existing German offices in Dusseldorf, Munich, Frankfurt and Hamburg. The new space is to serve as an important instrument for the development and deepening of existing client relationships as well as for winning new business.

Flexible working

In addition to being used for meetings with clients and as a venue for conferences and events, the Berlin presence will also function as a flexible working space for Bird & Bird lawyers from Germany and abroad, especially for advising local projects and transactions. Sven-Erik Heun, partner and head of Bird & Bird Germany, says “As a law firm with an outstanding reputation in the fields of technology, public procurement, commercial law, regulation and IP, we want to be present in Berlin. The city has also developed a centre for established technology companies and venture capital, as well as for start-ups focused on digitization, fintech, e-commerce and media, and as the German capital is, of course, home to many ministries and government agencies relevant to legal advice. This fits perfectly within our focus on technology-related sectors. With our Berlin presence, we create a modern platform for meetings with our clients and thus fulfil their expectations of an innovative and flexible law firm.”

Overarching aim

David Kerr, ceo of Bird & Bird says “Bird & Bird has a very clear, unique strategy - to be the number one firm in the world for organisations being changed by technology or the digital world, so it's a natural step for us to open a workspace in Berlin. Being closer to our clients by having a presence in the tech centre will allow us to provide them with the best possible service - which is always our overarching aim.”
