Leading offshore law firm Carey Olsen has continued its Asia expansion with the opening of a new office in Hong Kong.

Carey Olsen partner Michael Makridakis

With more than 200 lawyers worldwide including 49 partners, Carey Olsen is one of the largest offshore law firms in the world. The firm provides advice on British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey law from eight offices worldwide, which are distributed to cover all time zones and key financial markets. The firm’s newest office in Hong Kong will have a dispute resolution and insolvency focus, and follows from the opening of its Singapore office in October last year. Cayman Islands-based partner Michael Makridakis has relocated to Hong Kong to help spearhead the new office.

The next ‘logical step’

Mr Makridakis commented: ‘The growth in demand for offshore legal services in Asia has created a parallel demand for offshore litigation services and we have an increasing number of clients requiring advice in relation to dispute and insolvency matters in the region. Our Hong Kong office provides clients and referrers with access to offshore dispute resolution and insolvency specialists who are in the same time zone and who have a thorough understanding of the Asian market.’
