Christine Lagarde 'under investigation' in Paris

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief is 'under investigation' for negligence in a French corruption case dating back to when she was France's finance minister.

She is facing questions on her role and that of her chief of staff in a 400 million euro payment to a businessman with a checkered past. The IMF head said that she had committed no offense and the only allegation was that she was not sufficiantly vigilant.She is being represented by French law firm Jeantet partner Yves Repiquet who is a former president of the Bar Association of the Bar of Paris. He described the claim as 'extremely minor' and 'unfounded' and said he would file a motion to have the preliminary charge dismissed. She is also said to be taking advice from Christopher Baker, a former head of the Paris office of Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom who retired last year but still practices. He founded the Paris office for the New York firm in 1989.
