Ross McKean is set to join DLA Piper as a partner from Olswang, where he was head of the firm’s data protection practice. He moved to Olswang to build the practice in 2012, having trained and been made partner at Baker & McKenzie.

Another firm to make a tech hire in the City is Nabarro, which has hired Penningtons Manches head of IT & outsourcing Sam De Silva for the same role. Mr De Silva, who advises on data protection, cyber security and payment card issues worked at Nabarro as an associate.

The firm launched a new three year strategy in 2015 and is increasingly focused on technology as one of its four sectors; among its list of clients are Google, IBM and Intel.

Meanwhile, tech-focused Bird & Bird has made a key media hire, with the appointment of in-house media lawyer Richard McMorris. Mr McMorris joins the firm from digital sports provider Perform Group, where he was general counsel for four years and led a team of 11.
