CMS dominates practice head appointments for merged firm

Partners from CMS will occupy more than half of the firm's practice and sector head roles when its merger with Nabarro and Olswang goes live next year.

Of the 22 practice and sector head positions that will be available in the merged firm, 12 will be occupied by partners joining the combined UK partnership from CMS. Nabarro partners will occupy six of the slots while Olswang partners will claim four – though only one Olswang partner, future commercial operations UK head Ian Stainsfield, will head a practice group in the merged firm on his own. CMS UK managing partner Stephen Millar commented: ‘We have chosen the very best-in-class leaders. This is a leadership team representative from all three firms, with positions agreed and put in place before the vote. Together, we will be better positions to meet our clients’ rapidly changing needs in the UK and internationally.’

Also securing a practice leadership position from Olswang is Catherine Taylor, who will serve as UK co-head of the firm’s litigation practice alongside current Nabarro partner Jonathan Warne. Nabarro senior partner Ciaran Carvalho has been appointed as global co-head of real estate alongside CMS partners Dirk Rodewoldt and Arnout Scholten. He is the only management member of any of the three firms to secure a global practice leadership position in the new firm.
