Bucking the general trend for BigLaw, the elite firm has made up three new partners - and all of them are women.

Cravath, Swaine & Moore has confirmed that litigators Margaret D’Amico and Rory Leraris will be joining the firm’s elite partnership alongside tax lawyer Kara Mungovan. With fewer than 100 members, the making the Cravath partnership is a stunning achievement for three lawyers who have each been with the firm fewer than ten years. Both Ms D’Amico and Ms Leraris joined Cravath’s ranks in 2008, the former after graduating with a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and the latter with a JD from University of Chicago Law School. Ms Mungovan is also a graduate of Harvard Law.

All three new partners will officially become members of Cravath, Swaine & Moore on 1 January. A recent report by the Diversity & Flexibility alliance found that women made up just 34 per cent of newly promoted partners at 134 large US law firms in the last 12 months. Overall, women still account for just 18 per cent of the combined partnerships of all major US firms.
