Dentons snaps up Deloitte's Russian tax team

Dentons has wooed a team of nine from Deloitte's tax practice in Russia to boost its offering in St Petersburg.
St Petersburg: toll road deal

The coup is a reversal of the norm which typically sees consultancies and accountancy firms luring lawyers to their ranks. One of those reported to be making the move from the consultancy to Dentons is head of technology, media and telecoms Vasilii Markov who will take up the position as head of tax. He had been with Deloitte for more than a decade. This is the latest move to bolster Denton’s tax offering which has doubled in size over the last 24 months and now totals a 100-plus strong team.

Disputes

The firm has also appointed  Italian lawyer Sara Biglieri as its Europe co-head of litigation and dispute resolution and Europe head of the litigation group, alongside existing European co-heads, Paris-based Barton Legum and Jean Christophe Honlet. Ms Biglieri joined the firm from Studio Rucellai & Raffaelli as head of the Italian litigation and arbitration group in February last year, part of an 11-lawyer hire that bolstered the firm’s Milanese disputes and tax practices. She had been with the Italian firm since 2004.

Expanding

The firm has been rapidly expanding and recently merged with Scottish law firm Maclay Murray & Spens whilst also opening an office in Melbourne and launching a general counsel consultancy.
