Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the gunman involved in Monday’s attack, though local news publication The Houston Chronicle has named him as ‘disgruntled’ local attorney Nathan DeSai. Mr DeSai, aged 46, had a two-lawyer general law practice in northwest Houston, McDaniel & DeSai LLP, which dissolved several months before Monday’s attack. Prior to launching his firm, Mr DeSai reportedly worked as an assistant district attorney for the Dallas County prosecutor’s office.

Motive unclear

The now-deceased lawyer is accused of injuring nine people in a seemingly random gun attack on Monday in Houston, Texas. Armed with two firearms and more than 2,500 rounds of live ammunition, the shooter opened fire on drivers outside a shopping centre and injured several, though luckily killing none. Reports from the scene describe the shooter as wearing military-style garments with ‘Nazi emblems’, and a search through the suspect’s apartment uncovered historic military paraphernalia dating back to the US Civil War. Police have not yet pinned down a motive for the attack, though a man identified as Mr DeSai’s father told KTRK-TV in Houston that his son had been ‘troubled by the downturn in business at his law office.’
