DLA sets target to double size of Philadelphia team

DLA Piper is planning to reach around 100 lawyers within the next few years, with particular focus on expanding the litigation and intellectual property groups.

Carl Buchholz, managing partner of the Philadelphia office of DLA, said: 'We have picked certain markets to grow in, and Philadelphia is one of them.' The move could raise eyebrows in the city because, as The Philadelphia Inquirer puts it, 'the legal market in Philadelphia is mature and thus not a place where big firms from outside the city typically seek to grow'.

However, Ward Bower of consultant Altman Weil spoke highly of Mr Buchholz, formerly a senior lawyer at the White House. Mr Bower said: 'He is an accomplished manager, and he is really well-connected to Philadelphia businesses.' Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer
