Drone purchase boom over Christmas could result in consumer fines

New drone rules in Ireland, the US, Australia and other countries could lead to the levying of fines on consumers around the world, as drones are expected to figure among the top-selling Christmas presents this year.

In Ireland new rules have just come into place requiring individuals to register as the owner of a drone. Similar rules are taking effect in the US, while in Australia people are being warned of 'hefty fines' if they do not abide by rules from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. 

Fines

Under the Australian rules, drones must be kept at least 30 metres away from other people and must remain within the sight of the pilot. Breaches can result in fines of up to A$9,000. Source: Brisbane Times
