Ellen Pao, the venture capitalist who used to work at Cravath Swaine, has spoken out against sexism in the venture capital industry after losing her discrimination claim against former employer Kleiner Perkins.

Silicon Valley: Sexism allegations Pincasso

Ms Pao - currently the interim chief executive of online discussion forum Reddit - has not yet said whether she will appeal against the decision. The case has become a cause celebre in California's Silicon Valley where the events took place. She said that women should not have to undergo 'this legal experience' in the pursuit of equal treatment and added: 'I’d love to see a day where there are 50 per cent women in these really powerful institutions that have a huge impact on what services and technologies are brought to the world.'

Passed over

Ms Pao had sought US$16m in damages against Kleiner Perkins, alleging that she was passed over for promotion because of her sex. The jury did not decide in her favour. Source: Financial Times
