Former A&L Goodbody managing partner James Osborne dies

James Osborne, former head of Dublin law firm A & L Goodbody and one of Ireland's best-known lawyers, has died.

The former managing partner of Dublin law firm, James Osborne, has died suddenly. Mr Osborne, who was one of the most sought after non-executive directors in Ireland, joined A&L Goodbody in 1973 and opened the firm's New York office in 1979, becoming managing partner in 1982 aged 32, a post he held until 1994. He subsequently worked as a consultant with A&L Goodbody in Dublin, where he retained an office. The charismatic Mr Osborne served as a director and chairman to a number of Irish companies. He advised Ryanair on its stock market flotation in London, New York, and Dublin before serving on the board for more than two decades. At the time of his death he was chairman of Eason and had been serving on boards including Carrolls Holdings, Golden Vale and Adare. Mr Osborne attended Campbell College, Belfast, and Trinity College Dublin.
