Bharat Vasani, general counsel of the Tata group, expects this trend to continue for a while, saying: 'The break-aways will continue and reach equilibrium only when foreign law firms are allowed in India.' Part of the motivation for setting up new firms is that the gap between partners and other lawyers in the established practices is seen as being much greater than it is in western firms.
