The newspaper cites an occasion in which the Attorney General for Oklahoma, Scott Pruitt, wrote a letter of protest to the Environmental Protection Agency. The letter turned out to have been written by lawyers advising Devon Energy, a large Oklahoma oil and bas business. The letter gives, says the newspaper, 'a hint of the unprecedented, secretive alliance that Mr. Pruitt and other Republican attorneys general have formed with some of the nation’s top energy producers to push back against the Obama regulatory agenda'. At least 12 Attorney Generals are collaborating at the moment - with more likely to take part, the newspaper continues. The role of lawyers is also described. On numerous occasions, Attorney Generals are said to have closed investigations or taken other action 'after internvetion by lobbyists and lawyers'. Source: New York Times
