Jones Day rewards Chinese students

Firm announces 11 winners of its International Legal Fellowship award in Beijing and Shanghai.

Global law firm Jones Day has announced the winners of its 2019 Jones Day International Legal Fellowship Award. Eleven outstanding law students from top universities in Beijing and Shanghai were chosen as recipients for this year’s award.

Rule of law

The students come from Peking University, Tsinghua University, University of International Business and Economics, Renmin University of China, China University of Political Science and Law, East China University of Political Science and Law, Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Since 2001, the Jones Day International Legal Fellowship has granted more than RMB 3.7 million to 230 students from 17 universities in Beijing and Shanghai to support their educational pursuits in the legal area of their choice. “The Jones Day International Legal Fellowship in China is an important part of the Firm’s commitment to the rule of law around the world, its dedication to public service, and its support of the communities in which we practice,” said Jessie Tang, partner-in-charge of Jones Day's Beijing Office. "Now in its nineteenth year, I am proud of our efforts to provide financial and intellectual motivation to the many outstanding Chinese legal students who work hard to improve themselves and achieve their professional dreams."

Emotional note

Angel Huang, partner-in-charge of Jones Day's Shanghai Office,  said “The many great students with excellent academic performance that apply for our fellowship each year continue to impress us with their zeal for legal education, and through each new generation of legal professionals we continue to expand the rule of law and advance its development in Chinese legal society. We are proud of these contributions to the legal community in China.” One recipient, Youwei Xu from Peking University, said “This Fellowship means a lot to me not only financially, but emotionally as well, as it has strengthened my belief in myself and helped me make connections with other outstanding law students. I am excited to keep expanding my legal knowledge, pursuing broader international perspectives, and contributing to the legal profession in China and around the world.”
