In an effort to enhance the role of the International Arbitration Committee in response to the growing demand for arbitration under the KCAB International Arbitration Rules, the KCAB has chosen leading experts in international arbitration to serve as the next President and as new members of the Committee. Mr Kap-You Kim (Kevin) was named president of the committee while a distinguished group of international arbitrators including Christopher Lau of Singapore, Professor Doug Jones AO of Australia, Dr Michael Moser of Hong Kong and Professor Joongi Kim of Yonsei Law School, were appointed as new members.

Globally-recognised specialist

Mr Kim is a globally-recognised specialist in international arbitration. A founder of BKL’s International Arbitration and litigation practice group, he is recognised as a pioneer of international arbitration in Korea. He currently serves as a vice president of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and chair of the audit committee of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), a United Nations-accredited global non-governmental organisation of the world’s most prominent arbitration practitioners. Mr Kim is also listed on the Panel of Arbitrators of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), among other notable arbitration centres around the world.

'Great honour'

Mr Kim said: ‘It is a great honour to assume the role of President of the International Arbitration Committee of the KCAB. Serving in that capacity, I will redouble my efforts to contribute to the revitalization and development of international arbitration in Korea.’

First dedicated to international arbitration and litigation

Established in 2002, BKL’s International Arbitration and Litigation Practice Group was the first practice group in Korea to be dedicated solely to international arbitration and litigation. Composed of some 30 professionals, the team has grown into the largest and most experienced international practice in Asia, representing a diverse mix of domestic and foreign clients in cross-border disputes in jurisdictions all over the world.

One of the leading law firms in Korea

Founded in 1980, Bae, Kim & Lee  is one of the leading law firms in Korea and in Asia with over 500 professionals and supporting specialists. As the first Korean law firm to set up offices in China and the UAE, BKL boasts seven overseas offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Dubai, Hong Kong, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Yangon. BKL is the second largest law firm in Korea by size and revenue. BKL established an internal Pro Bono Committee in 2002 for the first time among Korean law firms and has devoted itself to fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities since its inception.
