Law firm leaders predict revenue rises will be linked to lawyer mobility

A group of 20 law firm leaders has unanimously agreed that the ability to provide mobile working and to reduce dependence on office space could drive revenue growth - and that firms who neglect this area could struggle to recruit new talent.

Cloud computing specialist ConvergeTS took a poll of 20 FDs, CEOs and IT heads from law firms at a forum recently - and found that all agreed that 'an agile workforce, where staff do not require office space and instead are powered by IT, enables imaginative use of skilled people and results in more time dedicated to generating revenue than spending time travelling'.

Bandwidth and culture change

Nigel Wright, founder and MD of ConvergeTS, said: 'The reality is that there is a growing expectation amongst potential recruits that firms will automatically be agile. Those that aren’t will lose out on attracting new talent and retaining existing talent.' But firms were warned not to expect an easy transition in all cases to such an environment. Changing the culture is seen as an important step in order to convince senior, as well as junior, staff of the advantages. Many technical steps also need to be completed - such as ensuring that the firm's bandwidth is fit for purpose, especially to make video conferencing work - before the real benefits are achieved.
