The consultation published jointly by the Law Society and the Solicitors Regulation Authority proposes that the individual PC fee be cut by £30 to £290 per solicitor. If successful, the cut will contribute towards a 24 per cent reduction in PC fees since 2014. According to Law Society chief executive Catherine Dixon, the proposed reduction will come alongside greater transparency around costs and a review of expenses: ‘We are being clearer about our costs to the profession and what the PC fee pays for and we really want to hear from solicitors about our proposals,’ said Ms Dixon told the Law Society Gazette. SRA chief executive Paul Phillip reiterated that ‘value for money’ and ‘transparency’ were at the core of the new consultation.
