Lawyer image could change and become positive, says consultant

Technology could give lawyers the opportunity to deliver legal services to the millions who currently can't afford them and improve their image, according to Mark A Cohen of strategic consultant Legal Mosaic.

'For lawyer/entrepreneurs ... it is an exciting time because the global legal market has plenty of room for effective new models of delivery' lassedesignen

Writing in Bloomberg Business of Law, Mr Cohen says: 'The retail segment has millions of potential new paying clients. And when those clients are represented, the public perception of lawyers will improve.' Technology will be a way for lawyers to deliver advice to this sector, particularly through the use of IT products in some more straightforward areas. Technology will also allow lawyers to tap into the knowlege of experts and colleagues more easily.

Public trust

Such developments will help restore trust in the profession, according to Mr Cohen, who adds: 'Lawyers will be happier when they restore public trust.' Source: Bloomberg Business of Law
