Lawyer to run in Tokyo mayor elections

The 67-year old former head of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, Kenji Utsunomiya, has announced that he will run in the February 9 elections to become mayor of Tokyo.

He was runner-up to the recent incumbent, Naoki Inose, who won in December 2012 but who resigned recently, after accepting money from a hospital chain. Mr Utsunomiya ran in 2012 as an anti-nuclear power candidate with the backing of three parties including the Social Democratic Party and the Japanese Communists.
