LGBT professional parent group launches in London

LGBT parents face a unique set of challenges which a new network is looking to address. P3 will launch in London on 25 September.

An initiative to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) parents has been launched in London.The network, P3, offers support to LGBT parents and parents of LGBT children working in the professional services industry. Organisations supporting P3 include Deloitte, Deutsche Bank, Brown Rudnick, Freshfields, Goldman Sachs, Jones Day, JPMorgan, Linklaters and Morgan Stanley. Commenting, law firm Brown Rudnick partner Steven Friel, who is a co-founder of P3 and on the advisory board, told Out At Work that same-sex couples moving into parenthood was on the increase and they faced unique challenges in managing their famillies and professional lives. ‘For employers there are issues around how to develop HR policies and navigate legal obligations to same-sex parents – in terms of maternity and paternity rights for example, and in ensuring that policies are up to date to support and protect LGBT parents. Often companies and organisations aren’t aware of the unique needs of this group…’ he said. The group is set to launch on 25 September 2014 at an event hosted by Deloitte and around 200 are expected to attend, mostly senior LGBT professionals from law firms, banks, accountants.
