Linklaters predict rise of shareholder power in 2014

Shareholder activists are becoming more focused and are likely to cause record levels of disruption this year, according to a report from Linklaters.

Ralph Wollburg, head of the firm’s global corporate advisory group, said: ‘We are seeing an increased focus this year on companies in the $250 million to $2 billion market cap range and across the board, the activists are enjoying increasing success.’ Activists have started 272 campaigns this year and are on course to beat last year’s total of 520, according to the firm.
