Most lawyers struggle to be ethical, says study

Nearly 60% of solicitors find it difficult to 'do the right thing', according to a survey of 1,000 people carried out by Birmingham University's Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues.

The research found that nearly 60% of  lawyers would accept advise from a colleague which meant rounding up a bill and charging more than was actually correct to the client. Professor Hywel Thomas, one of the main investigators behind the report, said that there is 'concern' among lawyers that not all practitioners understand what is meant by morally good  practice.

More ethics teaching needed

The university is suggesting that a greater focus by put on ethics in undergraduate law courses and through people who act as senior role models at work. Source: The Guardian
