Mr Sherman, 73, died after falling overboard into rough waters while sailing on his personal sailboat, named ‘Charm’ off the coast of Puerto Rico. Justice Schick and a third companion, Bob Rivituso, told authorities that they made efforts to retrieve their friend using ropes and other equipment, but were ultimately unsuccessful. Mr Sherman made a career as a history professor at Bloomfield College in New Jersey before enrolling in law school in his mid-40s. He earned his Juris Doctor from Pace Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1998, practicing at the Sullivan County Legal Aid Panel before eventually being called to the bench of the Sullivan County Supreme Court. In the last few years of his life, Mr Sherman had run his own part-time practice. Source: Law.com; New York Law Journal
