Two organisations representing lawyers have spent record amounts lobbying against proposals in New York state which could reduce awards in civil cases.

The New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the New York Academy of Trial Lawyers have both upped their campaigning spend in the last year as they tried to dissuade lawmakers from cutting awards. Tom Stebbins of the Lawsuit Reform Alliance said: 'It tells me that the trial lawyers are concerned a numberof their golden eggs may be reformed.' Source: NY Daily News
