Ms Brooks’ appointment as CEO of News UK (formerly News International) restores her to the position she left in 2011, days after revelations that journalists working for the company had hacked into the phone of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler, among many others. Tabloid newspaper the News of the World was closed as a result of the scandal, though Ms Brooks was cleared of any involvement at an Old Bailey trial last year. However, the company may face more legal battles with the  British Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) still considering bringing charges against parent company News Corp. Police sent the allegations to prosecutors in July and the CPS reported: ‘We have received a full file of evidence for consideration of corporate liability charges relating to the Operation Weeting phone hacking investigation.’ Sources: The Independent; Yahoo News
