The New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman has announced he will resign his office today following allegations he had assaulted women. Mr. Schneiderman is a lawyer who has thrived on being a committed social justice crusader and featured in many GLP stories, most recently in a crusade against cyrptocurrency exchanges.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, resigned his office. In a statement, Mr. Schneiderman said, "While these allegations are unrelated to my professional conduct or the operations of the office, they will effectively prevent me from leading the office’s work at this critical time. I therefore resign my office, effective at the close of business on May 8, 2018.". His statement also framed the allegations as romantic role-play gone wrong. Mr Schneiderman said, “In the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity. I have not assaulted anyone. I have never engaged in nonconsensual sex, which is a line I would not cross.”

Exposé
An exposé from the New Yorker magazine reports that four women have accused the New York AG of physically abusing them during the course of their romantic relationships with him. The state legislature is empowered collectively to find a replacement to serve the remainder of Mr. Schneiderman's term. Two women, Michelle Manning Barish and Tanya Selvaratnam, have talked to The New Yorker on the record, because they feel that doing so could protect other women. They allege that he repeatedly hit them, often after drinking, frequently in bed and never with their consent. Manning Barish and Selvaratnam categorize the abuse he inflicted on them as “assault.”
