Paralegals get boost in Upper Canada

The Law Society Act got its third reading last week, bringing changes at the Law Society of Upper Canada closer to implementation.

Canada is looking to allow paralegals to play a fuller role in the state Andrey Burmakin

Changes include the creation of a new tribunal to streamline disciplinary proceedings at the society. There are also various clauses which will allow paralegals to play a fuller role in the state. Paralegals will be allowed to charge for their legal services. They will also have to comply with the rules of the disciplinary boards by paying legal costs of disciplinary hearings or to risk suspension. Source: Law Times
