Hearings will be conducted in English at a new commercial appeals court in a bid to grab a share of Britain’s £14 billion commercial law market and lure financial institutions away from London before Brexit. The French justice ministry opened an international commercial appeal chamber at the Paris courthouse, The Times reported, where parties will be allowed to speak English, use the English common law and where and judgments will be bilingual. France’s Minister of Justice, Nicole Belloubet, was quoted, saying: “When the UK leaves the EU, it could lose its access to the single legal space and London’s courts could see their attractivity overtaken by European courts.”
