Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman moves into new Miami office

Global legal services firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman has moved into its new 10,566-square-foot office at Brickell World Plaza in Miami as it expands in South Florida in a leasing deal search that took less than three months to complete.

The agreement was finalised in late February and Pillsbury moved into the space in recent weeks in what might be one of the fastest deals of its type to conclude. ‘Pillsbury quickly needed a marquee location for its expansion into the Miami market,’ said Savills Studley Senior Vice President and Miami Branch Manager Bob Orban, who brokered the deal. The office was secured in less than three months with the firm revealing in February it was to open its newest office in Miami – its 21st worldwide - adding a prominent six-lawyer team from Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP that would strengthen the firm’s commercial litigation and tax practices in both Florida and New York.

New team

Partners Jennifer Altman, Shani Rivaux and senior counsel Aryeh Kaplan have joined the firm’s Litigation group, while partners Michael Kosnitzky, Keith Blum and special counsel Ivan Mitev have added to Pillsbury’s Tax practice. Jennifer Altman will serve as Managing Partner of the new Miami office.

Good fit

‘Fit is an extremely important part of any decision to open a new office, and Miami is a great match for Pillsbury’s existing offices and practices,’ said Firm Chair David Dekker. ‘The legal market there is very active, with heavy demand in areas like litigation, corporate, M&A, tax, real estate, construction, trusts and estates, transportation, and insurance recovery, which are widely recognized as strengths of our firm. The South Florida market also frequently serves as a gateway for business from Latin America—a region where Pillsbury has a thriving practice—as well as for inbound investment from other parts of the world. All of these elements line up nicely with our global platform.’

Growing presence

The newly announced office will augment Pillsbury’s existing presence in Palm Beach where the firm’s Estates, Trusts & Tax Planning team already practices. The tower is a Class A and LEED Platinum certified property set in the financial district of downtown Miami.  Pillsbury’s offices are located on the 31st floor of the 40-story, 630,000-square-foot office structure completed in 2011.
