Portuguese lawyers up in arms over reforms

The lawyers believe the government reforms are endangering the legal system and are constitutionally unsound.

Portuguese lawyers are up in arms over judicial reforms which they say will restrict access to the courts for Portuguese citizens. The new laws have reduced the number of judicial districts from 231 to 23 whilst also closing 20 courts.The Portuguese Bar Association has accused the government of undermining the rule of law following protests in July where lawyers demonstrated outside government buildings.
