Praise from judges can be used in lawyer publicity

US lawyers are to be allowed to quote any praise they receive by judges in their publicity material.

The Third US Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled in favour of a litigation lawyer who challenged state bar rules prohibiting the quoting of such comments. But employment lawyer Andrew Dwyer is now free to use all such quotes. For instance, a judge had once said of him: ‘Mr. Dwyer is, I think, an exceptional lawyer, one of the most exceptional lawyers I’ve had the pleasure of appearing before me.’ The appeals court had found that his First Amendment rights to advertise his services  had been violated by a ban.
