Sheffield launches campaign to entice law firms

Sheffield City Council has launched a northshoring campaign in a bid to convince Southern law firms to open in the city.

The campaign, which is being run by the council’s economic development arm Creative Sheffield, involves a team contacting law firms directly to discuss the benefits of using the city as a base. Deputy leader of Sheffield City Council Leigh Bramall described Sheffield as one of the most cost-effective cities in the UK for businesses looking to relocate, with office take-up ‘booming in light of major new developments and an up-turn in confidence in the market.’

Northbound firms

A number of firms have attempted to cut expenses by setting up low cost centres in the north and Sheffield is already home to a some major players, including DLA Piper. Last year US immigration specialist Fragomen opened its second office there and plans to create 100 new roles in the city over the next year. Source: The Lawyer
