Howard Hemley, a non-solicitor, reportedly pinched as much as £3,000 worth of ‘paper and other stationery’ from firm stockpiles while employed as an office clerk at Magic Circle outfit Slaughter and May. Though Mr Hemley was sacked from the firm in December, the Solicitors Regulation Authority has gone one step further and banned the stationery enthusiast from ever again being employed by a solicitor or law firm, concluding that his conduct at Slaughters has made it ‘undesirable for him to be involved in a legal practice.’ A statement from Slaughters about the incident emphasised that Mr Hemley’s theft had no adverse impact on the firm’s clients.
