Sullivan & Cromwell sets up Brussels office

US law firm Sullivan & Cromwell is to establish an office in Brussels headed up by Michael Rosenthal who headed up Wilson Sonsini's Brussels practice.

Mr Rosenthal, who led Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati’s European Union and German competition and antitrust practice,  joins Sullivan & Cromwell as a partner.  This move signals the first new office for Sullivan & Cromwell in nearly 20 years - its European offices were located in London, Paris and Frankfurt.  Mr Rosenthal joins as partner to work on EU and German competition matters and will work closely with the firm’s London-based head of EU anit-trust work, Juan Rodriguez. Mr Rosenthal’s former employer, Palo Alto-based firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati,  is well known for its work related to technology companies.

Tech experience

Mr Rosenthal, who is trained in German and US law, has previously worked with tech groups such as Dell and Spotify as well as industrial groups such as Chevron, BMW and K+S. Recent deals from Sullivan & Cromwell include advising German conglomerate Bayer on its $66 billion acquisition of US agribusiness Monsanto and US industrial gas company Praxair on its $65 billionn merger with German rival Linde.
