Trump appoints Hogan Lovells partner as special counsel

President Donald Trump has appointed Ty Cobb - former federal prosecutor and partner in the investigations practice of Hogan Lovells in Washington, DC - as White House special counsel.

In his new role Mr Cobb will oversee the legal and media response to the investigation into allegations of Russian interference and Trump campaign collusion in the Presidential election.Mr Cobb is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers with a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.

Under fire

The appointment comes as Trump's family faces increased scrutiny following news that Donald Trump Jr met with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign in attempts to secure information to damage the Clinton campaign.
