Stelios Platis is stepping down from the helm of ULaw just five months after being appointed to the top job.

Appointed as chief executive officer in May, Dr Platis was the third person to tackle the role in the last 12 months. Formerly a charity before operating under the ownership of Montagu Private Equity for three years, ULaw has not yet secured steady and sustainable leadership since the departure of long-term leader Professor Nigel Savage in February 2014 and the school’s subsequent acquisition by Global Education Systems (GUS) midway through last year. Dr Stalis took over from David Johnson in May, who had himself only held the role since the departure of John Latham in August 2015.

New CEO appointed

An economist by trade, Dr Platis initially promised to revamp ULaw’s strategic direction for its new owners, but has now been reassigned. A statement from ULaw said: ‘Following the successful restructuring of the University Executive, the board of the GUS group has asked Dr Stelios Platis to undertake a new assignment specifically focused on the strategic development of GUS international operations.’ Current ULaw vice-chancellor Professor Andrea Nollent has been tapped to take over from Dr Platis.
