Young talent named managing partner of City firm at 29

A City law firm has appointed a 29 year old as its new managing partner, just four years after he completed his training contract with the firm.

YURALAITS ALBERT

Cardiff University graduate Adam Ramlugon will celebrate his thirtieth birthday as managing partner of niche City law firm Bargate Murray, making him potentially the youngest firm boss in the City's history. Mr Ramlugon made ripples in the media in 2013 when he made partner at the firm just 12 months after completing his training contract, aged 27. Now, he has ascended to the top post at the boutique practice, which specialises in high-end superyacht, aviation and dispute resolution work. Fellow millennial Mark Needham has ascended beside Mr Ramlugon, also making partner late last year at just 27 years of age.

Merit above all

'Bargate Murray is a firm that promotes on merit, not time served,' commented the firm's founder and senior partner Quentin Bargate, a former Simmons & Simmons lawyer. 'Adam and Mark are fully deserving of their rapid rise in the firm and they will, I am sure, remain a credit to the firm and continue their outstanding work for our clients.'

Youngest ever?

Mr Ramlugon admittedly now finds himself sitting atop a very small team—Bargate Murray has only 11 staff. However, to have achieved such a prestigious title in a City firm at such a young age sets him apart from his peers, despite the firm's size. According to research from Legal Cheek, Mr Ramlugon may in fact be the City's youngest managing partner in history, and by no small margin. The previous record appears to have been held by Andrew Leaitherland, who was promoted to the helm of commercial law giant DWF at 36 years of age. Sources: Legal Cheek; Bargate Murray
