Among the new positions being parcleled out this week is bubbled wrap company Sealed Air's new general counsel appointment.

Sealed Air, the maker of trademarked bubble wrap, has announced Angel Willis will be the company’s vice president, general counsel and secretary, beginning in January. Ms Willis will replace acting general counsel Tom Lagaly, who became acting general counsel in January 2017, when Norman Finch left the role as the company’s legal leader. She is currently the vice president and general counsel of Ingersoll Rand for Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa. She was also vice president and general counsel of mergers and acquisitions, finance and restructuring.

Ava Lubell is joining Quartz as general counsel and director of corporate operations, based at the NYC headquarters. Ms Lubell will be responsible for directing Quartz’s legal strategy and overseeing legal, facilities, IT, and human resources functions. She is currently serving as general manager and general counsel of Slate Magazine, overseeing all legal work and day-to-day operations of the business. Ms Lubell previously special assistant to NY governor Andrew Cuomo.

The John Lewis Partnership has reorganised its legal team, following the appointment of a new partnership secretary to head the department earlier in the year. Rebecca Law has been brought in to head up legal function.

The Royal Mail general counsel has resigned from her position to take the top legal post at the FTSE 100 airline company easyJet in mid-2019. Maaike de Bie had a five-year tenure at Royal Mail, joining January 2014 as deputy general counsel and then stepping up following the departure of her then boss Neil Harnby.

The general counsel role at easyJet is currently being filled on an interim basis by Clifford Chance partner Daud Khan, who was seconded over after previous incumbent Kyla Mullins left for ITV in October. Ms Mullins returns to ITV as general counsel, replacing Andrew Garard who left in July.

Axiom Global, an alternative legal services provider headquartered in New York City, has announced the chief legal officer at Zillow Group is to join the Axiom board of directors as the audit chair. Kathleen Philips was previously the chief legal officer and cfo at Zillow and announced in May that she would be resigning from the cfo role immediately and would stay on as clo until the end of this year. Ms Philips has been the general counsel of StubHub, FanSnap and Hotwire. Axiom also announced the hiring of a former Thomson Reuters Americas general counsel John Reid-Dodick, who will join the board of directors as compensation chair. Mr Reid-Dodick is currently the  senior vice president of culture at WeWork.

Another former general counsel leaving the corporate world has set up his own boutique law firm, DLS law offices. Dipti Lavya Swain, was formerly general counsel at Indian solar power company Azure Power. Headquartered in Delhi, the eight-lawyer firm has offices in Mumbai and the eastern city of Bhubaneshwar. It additionally has associate offices in the cities of Ahmedabad and Bhopal.
