In a busy week of moves around the house, general counsel takes the La-Z-Boy legal seat as retiree puts his feet up.

Stephen Krull has succeeded the retiring Rand Tucker at Furniture company La-Z-Boy as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. MrTucker is retiring after 19 years with the Monroe, Michigan-based company. In his new role, Mr Krull reports to chair, president and CEO Kurt Darrow. He is responsible for managing all legal matters for the company, including corporate securities, compliance, litigation, intellectual property and patents, environmental issues, M&A and contracts. His career has included serving as executive vice president and general counsel of Miller Diversified, and spells at Con-Way and Owens Corning.

NYSE-listed Adtalem Global Education has appointed Stephen Beard, senior vice president and the company’s general counsel, to the expanded position of COO and general counsel. Mr Beard joined Adtalem in February 2018, overseeing the education provider’s global legal, governance, risk and security matters. In his expanded role, he now also leads the company’s strategy and innovation, corporate development and investor relations activities. Before joining Adtalem, Beard was executive vice president, chief administrative officer and general counsel of Heidrick & Struggles International.

Laurel Krueger has been appointed general counsel of Kontoor Brands, the independent, publicly traded company that will result from the previously announced separation of VF’s Jeanswear organization, expected to be completed in the first half of 2019. Ms Krueger will oversee Kontoor Brands’ legal function, including compliance, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance and she will serve on Kontoor Brands’ executive management team, reporting directly to named CEO Scott Baxter, effective immediately. Ms Krueger joins Kontoor Brands from Signet Jewelers Limited, where she served as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

Z Capital Partners, a private equity and credit funds firm, has promoted Matthew D Kane to general counsel and chief compliance officer. Mr Kane has also been appointed to Z Capital's Management Committee. He joined Z Capital as deputy general counsel in 2014 and has nearly two decades of legal experience, and is responsible for providing legal advice on value-oriented private equity transactions in due diligence, legal oversight of portfolio companies, mergers & acquisitions, and litigation. Prior to joining Z Capital, Mr Kane was with Storch Amini PC, a litigation boutique in New York.

Stewart Title Ltd, the underwriter for Stewart’s transactions in the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia, has promoted Ferky Azib to general counsel. In her new position, Ms Azib will provide counsel and guidance on all legal matters for Stewart Title Limited’s expanding operations. She will be involved in the development and implementation of corporate policies as well as oversee corporate governance and regulatory compliance. Ms Azib will also serve on the Stewart Title Limited Board of Directors as Corporate Secretary. She joined Stewart as claims counsel in April 2018.

Panasonic Avionics has appointed Kimberly Chainey as general counsel. Ms Chainey is a legal leader and corporate generalist with over 15 years of experience advising senior executives of Fortune 500 companies, venture businesses, and government entities. As chief legal officer and a member of the executive team, she will advise Panasonic Avionics’ leadership on the company’s strategic direction, reporting directly to Jessica Hodkinson, the General Counsel of Panasonic Corporation of North America (PNA) with a dotted line reporting structure to Panasonic Avionics’ Chief Executive Officer, Hideo Nakano. Ms Chainey joins Panasonic Avionics from the Avis Budget Group where she was the associate general gounsel, global M&A, strategy and innovation.

The PG&E general counsel has been appointed CEO as the company heads toward bankruptcy. John Simon takes the interim CEO role as it prepares to file bankruptcy. The San Francisco-based company is facing billions of dollars in damages from lawsuits over its role in the 2018 California wildfires.

Alliant Insurance Services has promoted an in-house lawyer to general counsel. Jennifer E Baumann, who joined the firm a decade ago, has been given the promotion to replace long-time general counsel Ken Zak, who is retiring.

Amneal Pharmaceuticals has hired David Buchen to fill the newly expanded role of senior vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary. He reports to president and ceo Robert Stewart and is responsible for leading Amneal’s global legal, intellectual property and corporate compliance functions, as well as using the company’s corporate legal strategies to drive the company’s growth. Sheldon Hirt, Amneal’s senior vice president and general counsel, will remain on board through January to ensure a smooth transition before leaving the company to pursue other opportunities, according to a company statement. Mr Buchen most recently served as a consultant to the pharmaceutical industry, providing counsel to various global and US manufacturing, marketing and distribution companies.

Freddie Mac has named Ricardo Anzaldua general counsel and corporate secretary. Mr Anzaldua, who is taking over for William McDavid after his retirement earlier this month, joined Freddie Mac in May as executive vice president and senior legal advisor. Prior to joining Freddie Mac, he worked at MetLife from 2012 until 2017 as executive vice president and general counsel.
