The First Bank of Nigeria (FBN Bank) has appointed Leslie Wan as general counsel. She replaces group general counsel Simon Nasta who left to jon GFG Alliance. Ms Wan previously worked at Lloyds Banking Group as real estate counsel and left the bank last year after over 10 years. She replaces acting general counsel Parminder Nahl and will report to CEO Paul Cardoen. Ms Wan earlier worked for Rose Fulbright, Allen & Overy and Bayerische Landesbank.

Modine Manufacturing, a thermal management technology and solutions company, has appointed Sylvia Stein as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Ms Stein will serve as a legal advisor to Modine's senior management team, business unit leaders, and board of directors and will also lead the global legal, compliance and intellectual property functions. She joins Modine with 25 years of experience in the legal field. Most recently, she was associate general counsel, marketing and regulatory at The Kraft Heinz Company, where she led the legal team for the US retail business units, food regulatory, marketing services and data privacy functions.

Indian solar power producer Azure Power has appointed Dipti Swain as general counsel. Mr Swain was a partner with Luthra & Luthra law firm. Inderpreet Wadhwa, founder, chairman and chief executive officer, Azure Power said: 'We are pleased to welcome Dipti as the general counsel of Azure Power. Given his proven track record as a well-established and respected legal professional in corporate and securities law in India, we are confident that his contributions will further strengthen the company’s strong governance, enhance our efforts to bring in the right expertise, and help Azure Power remain on the forefront of best practices.'

Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline's general counsel Dan Troy is to retire. Mr Troy joined GSK in September 2008 and is responsible for leading the company’s legal department in protecting GSK’s intellectual property, managing litigation, supporting business development transactions and business compliance and risk management. Mr Troy led the integration team following the acquisition of Human Genome Sciences, which later resulted in the launch of Benlysta, the first lupus treatment in 50 years. He heads GSK’s Contributions Committee in the US and also led the Government Affairs, Public Policy and Patient Advocacy team from 2012 until 2014. Prior to joining GSK, he was a partner in the Washington office of law firm Sidley Austin. He was formerly Chief Counsel for the FDA, where he served as a primary liaison to the White House and the US Department of Health and Human Services.

JPMorgan Chase general counsel Stephen Cutler is leaving the bank to join Simpson Thacher & Bartlett as a partner in New York later this year. Mr Cutler has spent 11 years with JPMorgan, the majority of those as general counsel.
