Visa Europe had recruited former Lloyds Banking Group head of legal Prini Pithouse as its new deputy general counsel. Since joining Visa from Lloyds last year, Ms Pithouse has been serving as the company’s executive director of commercial law. At Lloyds, Ms Pithouse worked in a range of roles including head of legal and commercial for group IT and head of legal for group operations. In her new role she will work alongside fellow Lloyds alumni and current Visa Europe GC Niamh Grogan.

Meanwhile, banking group Barclays has appointed former Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher partner and co-chair of financial institutions Mark Shelton as general counsel of its corporate and international business. The appointment comes amid a restructuring that has divided the businesses from Barclays UK and split the bank’s legal team in two. Mr Shelton takes over the role from Barclays UK general counsel Bob Hoyt, who was appointed to the position on an interim basis in May.

Target Corp has named Don Liu as its new executive vice president, chief legal officer and general counsel. Mr Liu will join Target on 22 August after a nine-year career at Xerox, where he most recently served as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. He will replace current Target legal boss Tim Baer, who is transitioning towards retirement in July 2017 after 23 years with the company.

Federal Communications Commission general counsel Jonathan Sallet is leaving the commission to join the US Department of Justice as deputy general counsel for litigation in the antitrust division. Howard Symons, who has served as vice chair of the commission’s Incentive Auction Task Force since the beginning of 2014, will replace him as general counsel at the FCC.

Finally, Sony-owned music distribution company The Orchard has picked up Greenberg Traurig lawyer Tucker McCrady as its new executive vice president and general counsel. During his four year stint at Greenberg, Mr McCrady worked on the legal team representing music platform Soundcloud, which has more than 100 million active users globally. He previously worked at Warner Music Group as associate counsel of digital legal affairs, and later managed global litigation as vice president.
