US-based waste management giant Republic Services has announced that Catharine Ellingsen will be taking over the in the role of executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary, effective immediately. Ms Ellingsen replaces incumbent CLO Michael Rissman, who is currently on a leave of absence. Ms Ellingsen has been a member of Republic’s legal team since 2001 and most recently served in the role of senior vice president and general counsel.

Meanwhile, Essar Global Fund Limited has confirmed that London-based general counsel and chief compliance officer Raminder Singh will be departing the company at the end of this year. EGFL is the holding company for Indian energy giant Essar Energy. In 2010, Mr Singh was recruited from Vinson & Elkins to serve as the fund’s first general counsel alongside Essar Energy GC Sheena Singla, as Essar looked to route more work through London. However, Mr Singh has confirmed that a strategic shift at Essar will now see him step down: ‘The change in the fund’s strategic direction coincides with my desire to explore other opportunities and fresh challenges,’ he said.

Isle of Man lottery betting business Annexio has appointed Paul Telford to the newly created role of general counsel. With extensive experience in the eGaming sector, Mr Telford joins Annexio from PokerStars brand parent company Rational Group, where he also served as general counsel. Before moving in-house, Mr Telford worked with prestigious City firm Allen & Overy, first within its IP litigation department and later in licensing and gaming.

Online retailer Boohoo.com has promoted former head of legal Keri Devine to the role of general counsel following the exit of incumbent GC Louise Fishwick. Ms Devine began her career as a solicitor with DLA Piper before a six-year in-house stint at The Co-Operative Group, where she most recently served as a senior solicitor. She has been a member of Boohoo’s in-house legal team since 2014.

Finally, Jenny Howard has been named as the new general counsel of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. Ms Howard has served as the department’s deputy GC since 2012, after a brief career in private practice at Hall, Booth, Smith & Slover and in the Metropolitan Nashville Department of Law, where she focused on environmental matters.
